Maritime Manpower Optimisation
13-14 October 2008,
Renaissance Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
This conference is another attempt to tackle the global crewing shortage. What makes it noteworthy is that it has been put together by Marcus Evans, a leading planner and organiser of business events with a vast network of 63 offices worldwide. Established in 1983, the company produces over a thousand such events annually for various industry sectors - from capital markets and defence to healthcare and information technology.
As in all of its conferences. Marcus Evans has made sure that the Kuala Lumpur event addresses the key concerns of busy senior business executives: Will I be networking with the right level of decision makers? Will I shorten my sales cycle? Will I do business? Is it a worthwile investment of time and money? Does the format of the event work?
The conference programme has been tightly designed and will focus on the nitty-gritty issues:
- Distress at global seafarer shortage in meeting crew demand
- Enlarging talent pool supporting shipping: The key to ensuring business continuity
- Crew retention strategies: Incentivising your staff
- Overcoming maritime shortage: Recruiting foreign manpower
- Development and implementation of Fleet Specific Competence Management System (CMS): A strategic approach
To be sure, it won't be the first time that these topics will be discussed. Delegates, however, can look forward to some fresh analyses and insights from case studies and expert presentations by Malaysian International Shipping Corp (MISC) Berhad, AP Moller Singapore Pte Ltd, Neptune ShipManagement Services (Pte) Ltd and the Philippines' Magsaysay Maritime Corp. In addition, there will be a half-day workshop on crew training and competency featuring highly respected names in the industry and interactive group discussions.
This is Marcus Evans' first stab at organising a manning and training conference. Rather than being a handicap, this actually enables the group to take a fresh look at the issues and not repeat itself as some maritime event organisers tend to do. The choice of conference venue is refreshing in itself. Malaysia boasts a very energetic maritime sector and Kuala Lumpur is one of the few cities in Southeast Asia that are a delight to visit.
